The Manx Cat Breed
There is no lack of legends concerning the origin of the Manx, including a tale that the Manx was the last animal to board the Ark and simply lost its tail when Noah slammed the door of the Ark on it. Another story has Irish invaders stealing the tails for helmet plumes, but the Isle of Man is generally agreed to be its homeland.
One of the most important features of the Manx is the body which should have a well-rounded appearance with a high, abbreviated back and a broad chest. They can be classified into three types: the Rumpy – with no tail; the Rumpy-riser with a tiny stub tail; the Longy with a short tail. For showing only the Rumpy which often has a dimple at the base of the spine is accepted but all tail lengths can be used in a breeding program.
The short, double coat comes in a variety of colors and requires only moderate care.
Although there is undoubtedly an element of curiosity value that attracts owners to the Manx, they have a reputation for intelligence and ease of training. They are certainly affectionate and unique companions.
